Lesson 2 of 5

Budgeting Your Pocket Money

🎯 In this lesson you'll learn:

  • Learn what a budget is
  • Track where your money goes
  • Make a simple weekly budget

Where Did My Money Go?

Kabir gets ₹200 every week. By Friday, it's always gone. He can't figure out where!

Aanya suggests: "Let's write down every rupee you spend this week."

Monday: Canteen snack — ₹30 Tuesday: Stickers — ₹20 Wednesday: Bus fare — ₹10, Chips — ₹15 Thursday: Pen — ₹10, Chocolate — ₹15 Friday: Ice cream — ₹25, Pencil — ₹10

Total spent: ₹135 Money left: ₹65

Wait — Kabir thought he spent everything, but he actually has ₹65 left! The problem wasn't spending — it was not knowing where the money went.

The Envelope Method

Aanya shows Kabir a cool trick:

On Saturday (pocket money day), Kabir writes on 5 envelopes:

🍽️ Canteen food — ₹80 🚌 Transport — ₹30 🎨 School supplies — ₹30 🎮 Fun stuff — ₹40 💾 Savings — ₹20

Every time he spends, he takes money from the right envelope. When an envelope is empty, he stops spending in that category!

By the end of the week, he knows EXACTLY where every rupee went.

The 30-Day Rule

Want something expensive? Wait 30 days before buying it.

If after 30 days you still want it AND you have the money — go for it!

Most of the time, you'll realize you don't actually want it that much anymore. This simple trick saves grown-ups (and kids!) from a LOT of impulse purchases.
