Taxes: Why We Pay Them

Aanya wondered: "Who builds the roads? Who runs the schools? Who puts out fires?"

"Taxes," her mom said.

Taxes are money that everyone pays to the government. The government uses this money to build and maintain things that everyone uses:

It's like everyone puts money in a big jar, and the government uses it to take care of the country!

There are two main types of taxes:

Income Tax 💼 When grown-ups earn money, they give a percentage to the government. If someone earns ₹10 lakh per year, they might pay about ₹1 lakh in tax.

GST (Goods & Services Tax) 🛒 When you buy things, a small tax is added. If a toy costs ₹100, you might pay ₹118 (including 18% GST). The extra ₹18 goes to the government.

"But why do I pay GST?" Aanya asked.

"Because the government uses that money to make the roads you drive on, the schools you learn in, and the hospitals that keep everyone healthy."
